What to Wear for Your Senior Portraits: Style Tips & Session Prep
Your senior session is all about capturing YOU—your style, confidence, and personality. What you wear plays a big part in how you feel during your shoot, and we want you to feel amazing. Here are a few helpful tips to make the most of your outfit choices and come fully prepared.

Fit Comes First
Before color or style, the most important thing is how your clothes fit. If something doesn’t fit well, it’ll show—especially while walking, sitting, or posing. You should feel comfortable and confident in everything you wear.
Also, don’t forget to check the undergarments. Make sure straps stay hidden and pieces don’t create lines or distractions. A strapless or nude option can be helpful depending on your outfits.

Flattering Colors
Choose colors that enhance your natural beauty—think about your skin tone, eye color, and hair color. Earth tones, jewel tones, soft pastels, and neutrals often photograph beautifully.
If you’re unsure, here’s a sample lineup that works great:
- A cute off-white top and jeans (a casual favorite!)
- A navy-blue short dress
- A medium green dress that adds a touch of natural vibrance
If you wear something neutral like white for one look, I recommend choosing more colorful options for the others to keep your gallery fun and varied.

Let’s Talk Shoes
We are not believers in “pain is beauty” for ladies. There’s truly no point in being uncomfortable. Ladies, if you love the look of heels, bring them—but also bring flats or sandals for walking between locations. You’ll thank yourself later. The dudes have it easy, make sure to keep it classy and not wear shoes that are too casual, like dirty sneakers, if you are wearing a dressy look.

Accessories that Pop
Accessories are a great way to layer, mix up your look, and stay comfortable. Consider bringing:
- Statement shoes – A bold color or pattern adds a fun twist
- Jewelry – Pretty earrings or a layered necklace can transform a look
Layering is key! It adds interest to your photos and gives us more options without needing a full outfit swap.

Touch-Up Essentials
Between locations or outfit changes, having a few basics on hand will help you look and feel fresh:
- Lint roller – Essential (especially if you have pets!)
- Bobby pins – For taming flyaways or adjusting hairstyles
- Compact powder – To reduce shine in warmer months
- Lipstick or Chapstick – Keep your lips photo-ready
- Mini makeup kit – Just a few items for quick touch-ups if needed

Private Changing Tent Provided
No need to worry about where to change—I bring a pop-up changing tent to every session so you can comfortably and privately switch outfits on location.
