A Dreamy Summer Engagement Session on Capitol Hill | Washington, DC
Some sessions stay with you forever—and this Washington, DC Engagement Session is one of those. From golden light on Capitol Hill to quiet, monumental moments that felt almost unreal, Olivia and Enzo’s engagement session was truly one of my all-time favorites.
We explored Capitol Hill, photographed near the Capitol Building, and visited another stunning DC monument, creating a gallery filled with iconic architecture, sweeping landscapes, and timeless elegance. Despite being in one of the busiest cities in the country, the session felt calm, intentional, and incredibly sophisticated.
A Session That Felt So Them
Olivia and Enzo did an amazing job making this session personal. They incorporated subtle nods to their upcoming wedding with a refined color palette of black, white, and yellow, which added cohesion and meaning without overpowering the scenery. The result was a session that felt elevated, intentional, and authentically them.
Since Enzo currently lives in DC, he knew the city well—which made navigating the area seamless and stress-free. Having local insight makes a huge difference during a city engagement session, especially in a place as layered and fast-moving as Washington, DC.
How to Plan a Dynamic Engagement Session in a Busy City
Dreaming of epic engagement photos with monuments, dramatic backdrops, and breathtaking views—but feeling overwhelmed? You’re not alone. Big-city sessions can feel daunting, but with the right planning, they’re incredibly rewarding. Here are my best tips:
1. Don’t Drive Yourself
Parking in DC can quickly derail a session. I recommend:
-
Having a trusted friend or family member act as your driver
-
Or using Uber/Lyft
A patient, reliable driver allows us to hop in and out efficiently and keeps the session relaxed and on schedule.
2. Pack Smart Shoes & Travel Light
In cities like DC, you often need to walk 1–3 blocks to reach monuments. You can’t drive right up to them. Comfortable shoes are essential, even if they’re just for walking between locations.
3. Keep Outfits Simple & Versatile
Bathrooms are hard to find and add unnecessary stress. I bring a pop-up changing tent for privacy, but I still recommend:
-
One main outfit with layers (jackets on/off)
-
Shoe changes
-
Hair up vs. down
This creates variety without slowing us down or requiring multiple full outfit changes.
Timing Is Everything
One of the most important factors in this session was the time of day. We chose an evening window with:
-
Soft, glowy summer light
-
Minimal crowds
-
Most Capitol Hill staff are already gone
Capitol Hill was quiet, serene, and almost empty. We kept looking at each other saying, “Wow—this feels like a dream.”
While I can Photoshop out distractions like people, police cars, or cones, choosing a quieter time creates a more relaxed experience and cleaner images from the start.
The Experience Matters Just as Much as the Photos
Olivia and Enzo went above and beyond—choosing a safe parking location, picking me up, driving us between monuments, and even walking me back afterward. We had the best conversations, dreamy weather, and the kind of connection that only happens when you truly spend time together.
You don’t fully know a couple until you’re with them like this—and I can confidently say they are incredible. Their faith, joy, work ethic, and youthful energy shine so brightly. Yes, they are absolutely stunning (they could both be models), but their depth as people is what truly makes them special.
I’m so grateful they trusted me to document this chapter of their love story, and I can’t wait for their summer 2026 wedding.
